Punk icons Green Day are back in the new today with the release of a brand new track titled “Bang Bang.” The song is the first to be released from the trio’s upcoming album, Revolution Radio, which is scheduled for release on October 7.
Serving as Green Day’s first official single in four years, “Bang Bang” is a driving punk song written from the perspective of a mass shooter. That may seem a bit controversial to some, but such aggressive songwriting tactics are nothing new for the group who wrote “Jesus Of Suburbia” and “American Idiot” over a decade ago. The song has the feel of mid-2000s Green Day, complete with Billie Joe Armstrong’s signature vocals, but there is a renewed passion underlining every strum and snare hit that seems to say the band is feeling more energetic than ever. You can stream the single below via lyric video (originally found on Facebook) or iHeartRadio.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Armstrong said:
“Of course the world has lost its collective mind… and me, Mike and Tré are lost souls too. Revolution Radio is a movement for lost souls to come together… dance together… sing together… and most of all, find each other. That’s what the spirit of Green Day has been about since day one.”
Pre-orders for Revolution Radio are available now on Green Day’s official website. The band has yet to detail any tour plans for the fall, but with the album arriving in October we believe it’s likely they will play at least a few shows before the start of 2017.
